Over the past couple of years the ERA has been working with WBC and the Emmbrook Infant and Junior schools to improve the appearance of the Corfield Green amenity, which is a natural meeting place and focal point of our village.
When children from both schools worked on the planting design, which was realised a couple of years ago, they included a bench so residents are able to take a rest, admire the planting and take in the surroundings.
We were not able to install the bench at the time, due to safety concerns installing under the large oak tree. The ERA are delighted to see the bench is now installed at the edge of the green. Thanks go to Balfour Beatty who funded and completed the installation of the bench, to David Hare at WBC who assisted in getting permissions in place, and to Chris Mallett of the ERA who coordinated efforts to finally get the bench in place for the benefit of all the community.
We will be working with the schools again in the spring to refresh the planting around the new bench.
Surely the bench is facing the wrong way to admire the planting it’s facing the road?
Can’t see the point in sitting looking at traffic driving past?
Thanks for the feedback Kay. We were limited to positioning the bench outside the tree canopy, and hence at the edge of the green was our only option. It was felt facing the seat inwards would detract from the overall appearance and move the bench too close to the pavement when considering the existing planting layout. When we refresh the planting in the spring the intention is to wrap the planting around the sides of the bench so it feels more integrated with the planting.
This is a really nice thing to do, it’s just a shame that so many cars are parking on Corfield green, it seems to be residents, visitors and now parents collecting school children are parking on it too! All churning up the grass and making it a mess.
Is anything being done about this?
