Waste and recycling

This page provides links to various sources of information covering local waste and recycling facilities or initiatives.

Standard waste & recycling collection from households

  • Recycling (paper, card, cans, plastics)
  • Food waste
  • Residual household waste

Further details about collections can be found here. Check your collection date here.

Collections are currently weekly, although WBC are considering changing the arrangements and have been consulting local residents. The consultation has now closed, but details of the proposed options can be found here.

Garden waste

WBC also operate a separate, paid for, garden waste collection scheme. Collections are made fortnightly. Further details can be found here.

Alternative waste and recycling facilities

Wokingham residents have access to the two large recycling centres in Reading and Bracknell. Since COVID, access to these sites requires residents to book a slot, and it appears this arrangement will continue for the foreseeable future. Slots can be booked here.

There are, however, other smaller local sites for recycling many items (e.g. glass bottles and jars, paper, card, cans, textiles). You can find your local recycling site here.

Local “litter picks”

WBC operate a successful initiative encouraging local “litter picks” by volunteer residents. The scheme is called “Adopt a Street” and details of the areas covered can be seen here.

If you are interested in volunteering to pick litter, on those streets not already covered, you can find further details on how to apply here. WBC will provide a litter picker, green ‘Adopt a Street’ bags and high-visibility jackets.

“Adopt a Street” also operate a Facebook Group where volunteers can share what they do and support each other to make the best use of their time to help keep Wokingham Borough safe and clean. You can find the group here.
